Well, I finally found a free moment to write a story about the master Global 2010 in Gothenburg.
The truth is that Swedes are probably better organized people I know. In Göteborg no spectacular facilities and a great European metropolis, but still have been able to organize a good tournament making the most of the resources at their disposal.
The first thing I like is that the airport was waiting for a free bus that took us to the masters and guests directly to the pool "Valhalla", which immediately gave us the badge. With this card, you could use all public transport in the city and surrounding area during the entire duration of the tournament (trams, buses and ships), which was long and good. Another success of the organization. In addition to the card leaving you free admission to the amusement park that was attached to one of the pools, advantage duly exploited by those who were traveling with small children.
The city was overturned with the championship, with posters in shelters trams and buses, information booths in malls and large presence in the local press.
The championship was held in two pools that were about 20 min. tram ride from each other. Each pool was used on alternate days for testing male or female.
"Valhalla" was the Olympic pool typical "modern", 50 m, warm pool of 25 m to the side, 1.80''deep and 10 blocks. The other, "Lundby" was a little shabby, with 1.20 m deep at one end, and only 8 blocks with 25-meter pool to heat and splash pool (only saw the children use the masters, including my own). Yet in this pool some bestiajo he managed to do 1'53''in the 200 free with a 40 years old, and had a large expanse of lawn very nice when it rained.
Both had the problem that the stands were scarce and few bathrooms so you better not need them.
The tournament fun, as always. I missed that we should most of the Canal, because only Begoña, Emilio and I ventured to Scandinavian lands. Take note of our friends in the Cuatro Caminos, which marked a great trip.
The event served as a meeting with acquaintances from other clubs, and there was much per square meter Olympic delighting us with their time and demonstrating how well preserved and why 5, 10, 20, 30 or more years earned medals.
The testing times have changed, as a result of which no longer can wear swimsuits "technical" (I have wanted to write one day about why these swimsuits helped and why is it fair that have been banned, although we depress a little times higher). For example, in 100 free in my age group, the average increase was 1''more at older ages.
Yet there were those who maintained or even lowered his time, but there was this festival in previous WR. World records were good, but very few.
In short, a championship beautiful, fun and well organized, taking into account that the pools were not "optimal" and labeled as the first without swimsuits "miracle."
The next World Cup is in Riccione, Italy in 2012. Meanwhile, in 2011 European Championship held Masters in Yalta, Ukraine, but it will be difficult to be a success assistance difficult and expensive it is to get there, at least from Spain.
"And when the World Cup in Spain?. There are spectacular swimming pool complex as the M86 in Madrid or Son Hugo Palma de Mallorca, where the facilities, the hotels, the city and communications at both sites get much easier than it did the Swedes ... and if nobody wants to organize, we can always bring about Göteborg Masters do it for us!.
